I'm Going Home On The Morning Train

This recording is among my very favourite ever to come from the Lomax machine. It trancends the crappy recording, the abrupt cut-off, and even the obnoxious "Well, what is it?" demand from Lomax in the intro.

Dock Reed, known mostly through his association with the fabulous Vera Hall, sings a powerful lead here, beautifully backed by Jesse Allison and Hettie Godfrey. More information here at the essential LOC American Memory site.
  • Dock Reed, Jesse Allison and Hettie Godfrey - I'm Going Home On The Morning Train
I'm going home on the morning train (3x)
If you don't see me you will hear me sing
All of my sins been taken away, taken away

Sister Mary wore three lengths of chain (3x)
On every link was my Jesus' name
All of my sins been taken away, taken away

The tallest tree in Paradise (3x)
The Christians call it The Tree Of Life
All of my sins been taken away, taken away

The Jordan's deep and the Jordan's wide (3x)
Chills my body but not my soul,
All of my sins been taken away...
